The future leaders of Australia and NZ’s legal professions unveiled

Australasian Lawyer and NZ Lawyer have unveiled 2025’s Future Legal Leaders for Australia and New Zealand.

Key to being a future legal leader is being “visionary, culturally grounded and technologically fluent”, with the ability to tackle the emerging challenges of AI, climate change and digital privacy “while maintaining a strong understanding of black letter law and having an ethical compass and a commitment to justice”, according to Law Association of New Zealand President Tony Herring.

Gilchrist Connell’s Linda Zeng seeks to be a leader who is responsible and considerate. MaddocksSamantha Murphy finds it important to gain and maintain clients’ trust in her field.

Sandpiper Immigration Lawyers’ Samantha Smith has two different definitions of success for clients and staff – satisfaction and openness, respectively.
