Dozens promoted to senior positions at Clayton Utz

Clayton Utz has promoted 50 lawyers to senior positions within the firm, naming 16 new special counsel and 34 new senior associates.

The corporate, M&A, and capital markets practice takes on the most promotions with six new special counsel and five new senior associates. Next is the major projects and construction practice, which welcomes three new special counsel and five new senior associates.

In May, Clayton Utz confirmed it hired Tim Sackar, Ashurst’s former head of restructuring and insolvency in Asia. That was after Ashurst hired John Brewster from the firm in February. At the start of the year, US BigLaw outfit Jones Day hired former Clayton Utz partner Andrew Smith.

In March, former EY partner Paul Fontanot started with the firm as a partner, launching the firm’s forensic practice. The firm then added forensic specialists Owen Bourke and Meg McKechnie to the practice. Also in February, Clayton Utz appointed Steve O’Reilly as chair, succeeding Ross Perrett.
