Clyde & Co has lured life insurance and financial lines specialist Jessica Thurtell from DLA Piper.

Thurtell joins Clyde & Co’s Sydney office, bringing her expertise in defending issues related to management liability. She has helped develop remediation programmes and respond to regulatory requests.

She has been involved in Royal Commissions and responded to systemic issues for clients through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). She has tackled complex litigation on behalf of large insurers.

“Jessica has strong connections in the life insurance industry which, combined with recent growth in our corporate practice, highlights our commitment to further develop the scope of our life insurance offering. Her experience in managing major and complex litigation, as well as management liability claims, also adds further depth to our national financial lines practice”, said Clyde & Co’s Australia insurance head Gareth Horne.

At DLA Piper, Thurtell was a senior associate representing insurers, reinsurers and insureds in insurance disputes, especially complex finance and construction litigation, professional indemnity, coverage and financial lines claims. She also spent over four years at Moray & Agnew, where she was a special counsel concentrating on insurance litigation.

She was once on the BT legal insurance team at Westpac, handling general and life insurance litigation, claims, class actions, regulatory responses, PDS reviews, industry code groups and AFCA setup. She also recorded stints with Henry Davis York and seconded with Commonwealth Bank.
