Carter Newell has promoted Elle Mariconte, Andrea Clifford, Mikaela McKinnon, Abraham Hopkins and Brittany Lorenzini across its Brisbane and Sydney offices effective 1 February.
The firm elevated Mariconte to special counsel on its general liability team. Clifford (professional liability), McKinnon (construction, projects and infrastructure; professional liability), and Hopkins (construction, projects and infrastructure) were promoted to senior associate; and Lorenzini (construction, projects and infrastructure) advanced to associate.
Mariconte specialises in personal injury, product liability, property damage, and professional indemnity claims for local and international insurers and corporate clients. She also regularly acts for body corporates, real estate agents, building owners, manufacturers, shopping centres, churches, nursing homes, sporting organisations, clubs and pubs, and not for profit organisations. She serves as a committee member for the Women in Insurance Association NSW.
Clifford focuses on financial lines, including employment practices liability and professional indemnity. She has acted for insurers as both defence and coverage counsel and has advised on complex matters such as class actions, unfair dismissal, and general protections claims before the Fair Work Commission. Clifford is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association and the Association for Women in Insurance NSW. She also contributes to Carter Newell's diversity and inclusion committee.
McKinnon, who joined Carter Newell in 2018 as a research clerk, specialises in construction law. She has been involved in several large and complex litigated construction disputes across various jurisdictions.
Hopkins has acted for principals, contractors, and consultants on matters arising from civil, building, mechanical, electrical, public infrastructure, energy, and mining resources projects across Australia. He has also acted in security of payment disputes for both the claimant and respondent in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, and has assisted with the provision of advice to underwriters based within Australia and internationally on various types of claims across the construction and engineering industry.
Lorenzini advises principals, contractors, subcontractors, and consultants on construction contracts. With more than six years’ experience in the legal field, she advises clients from tendering and negotiation through to contract execution. She is also experienced in advising clients on post contractual matters and contract administration, including advising on delay, payment and variation claims.
