The Hive Legal principal was initially going to go into human resources or marketing
Adrienne Trumbull was eyeing a career in human resources or marketing when she took up her commerce/law degree. However, she found herself loving “the challenge of the law” – today, the Hive Legal principal is a significant influence in the legal profession, having been named one of Australasian Lawyer’s Elite Women for 2024
In the first part of this interview, Trumbull talks an unforgettable “last-minute” business trip to Perth that had a big impact on her legal career – and an unforgettable holiday in Greece.
While I’ve always loved a debate, I was never one that had my heart set on being a lawyer from childhood. I chose to study commerce/ law with my sights on a career in human resources or marketing, but instantly loved the legal way of thinking and the challenge of the law.
Today, this is still my favourite part of my job – you never know what problems will come your way to solve, and in particular I love being able to break down complex concepts and drafting into something that is clear and easily understood.
Being sent to Perth very last minute to assist on an M&A transaction as a mid-level lawyer. I got off the plane close to midnight and was shown straight into the office to start my briefing. It was absolutely hectic, we worked crazy hours, and I ended up staying there in a hotel next to the office for 3 weeks.
I can’t say it was enjoyable exactly, but it was a huge opportunity to step up into my career transition. We navigated multiple hurdles and managed to get the deal done, and I learned a huge amount in (what now seems like) a very short period.
Our team winning commercial law team of the year in 2024, for the second time in four years. We have an amazing, exceptionally high calibre team, but noting we are practising in a very crowded space, I am incredibly proud to see our services recognised for not just what we are doing, but the way we are doing it.
I was fortunate enough to get to the Greek Islands with my family last year – if I could relive one day it would be our boat day off the coast of Paros; warm clear water, blue skies, good food and swimming for days. Absolute bliss.
