Teen accused in Auckland CBD shooting faces District Court

An 18-year-old boy accused of shooting three people at the Auckland CBD early on Saturday has appeared before the Auckland District Court.

The teen, whose name has been suppressed, faces three charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Among his victims was Poull Andersen, the brother of Jay-Jay Feeney who co-hosts More FM’s drive show, Jay-Jay & Flynny Driving You Home.

The 18-year-old was arrested after allegedly shooting Andersen, his partner and a friend at around 1:45am on Saturday morning as the trio wrapped up a night out. The victims were rushed to Auckland City Hospital; two were in a serious condition while one was in moderate condition, according to the NZ Herald.

Feeney described the shooting as “totally random” and told the Herald that her brother “didn't even do anything, just happened to be there.”

The proceedings took place on Monday morning before Judge Peter Winter, with the teen appearing via audio-visual link. The teen will remain in custody without plea until his next court appearance, which is slated for 23 March.

Following a brief consultation, barrister Kate Leys, who represented the 18-year-old, asked Winter to grant that her client be remanded without plea and as well as interim name suppression. The judge granted both orders.
