In-house legal veterans Sarah Owen and Jon Wall have joined Juno Legal, strengthening its teams in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, respectively.

Owen has over 25 years of legal and governance experience under her belt. She has held senior in-house legal roles at several organisations, including the Reserve Bank of New Zealand – Te Pūtea Matua, the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation Fund – Te Kaitiaki Taha Penihana Kaumātua o Aotearoa and Westpac NZ/BT Financial Group.

At the Reserve Bank, she was associate governor of risk, compliance and legal and chief risk officer; at the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation Fund, she was general manager of corporate strategy and general counsel. She was also Westpac NZ/BT Financial Group’s senior legal counsel and board secretary for wealth (KiwiSaver, funds management, life insurance) companies.

Owen is an expert on matters related to general corporate and commercial, contracts, cross-border, governance, customer and stakeholder, ESG, finance, asset management, compliance and privacy. As a private practitioner, she logged stints with MinterEllisonRuddWatts and Phillips Fox (now Lavan).

At present, she assists ACC.

Wall is admitted to practise in England and Wales. He focuses on banking, commercial and financial matters and has assisted corporates, financial institutions and government.

He was a consultant lawyer for The Energy Collective / Electric Kiwi (NZ) and Chapman Tripp, where he concentrated on financial services. He was risk and compliance head at the Nelson Building Society (NZ); moreover, he was senior legal counsel at the Commerce Commission, at BNP Paribas and at HSBC Insurance Brokers (UK). He also served as Carlsberg (UK) general counsel and company secretary.

Wall was a partner on Womble Bond Dickinson LLP (UK) and Withers LLP’s (BVI/UK) litigation teams. He was also a senior associate solicitor at Norton Rose Fulbright (UK) .

He is currently guiding Wellington Water. He is also an expert in regulatory and consumer law and dispute resolution.

According to Juno Legal, the new appointments bolster “access to senior in-house capability, deeper experience across governance, risk, commercial and financial matters”.
