He had been on a leave of absence since last July over complaints
Frazer Barton has returned to lead the New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa.
He assumes the post of president once more tomorrow after having been on a leave of absence since 26 July 2024.
Complaints had been filed against him over advice he gave to church group Presbyterian Support Otago. An independent standards committee conducted an inquiry into the complaints and ruled that it would take no further action.
According to the committee, Barton’s conduct violated no specific rule or satisfied the definition of unsatisfactory conduct.
“On behalf of the Law Society board, I’d like to express our confidence in Mr Barton. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, integrity and community service to his position. We back him to continue to bring that valuable expertise to the role of Law Society president”, Law Society Vice President David Campbell said.
