2023 Best Lawyers in NZ recognises 61 Lawyers of the Year

The Best Lawyers in New Zealand for 2023 has been announced, with 61 being named Lawyer of the Year awardees.

The accolade is granted to lawyers who receive the highest overall peer feedback in a practice area and geographic region through Best Lawyers’ peer review methodology. The 14th edition of the directory also identified 598 lawyers in 4 metropolitan areas as Best Lawyers.

The 2023 Best Lawyers hail from 72 practice areas, and have been practising for over nine years on average. The list was collated based on the votes of current Best Lawyers within the same practice and geographic area.

Lawyers who obtained high peer reviews in the process were subject to a stringent verification process to confirm that they are presently private practitioners.

Best Lawyers found that the majority of listed lawyers were based in the Auckland metro. Moreover, the 2023 Best Lawyers largely worked in the following practice areas:

  • labour and employment law
  • health care law
  • litigation
  • IP law
  • corporate law
  • real estate law
  • banking and finance law
  • construction law
  • M&A law
  • capital markets law/insolvency and reorganisation law
