Sydney-based litigator was with MinterEllison for over a decade
Clayton Utz has announced the appointment of Rimma Miller – a tax litigator and adviser who most recently served as a partner in MinterEllison’s tax controversy team – as a partner in its Sydney office and its national tax practice.
“Rimma is one of Australia’s leading tax litigators, with an exceptional track record in complex, high-value disputes,” said Emma Covacevich, Clayton Utz chief executive partner, in a media release. “Her move to Clayton Utz is a significant milestone in the continued growth of our tax practice.”
With over 25 years of experience, Miller has handled complex tax disputes, tax advisory matters, and strategic risk management. She has acted for large corporates across various industries, including resources, energy, technology, natural sciences, and financial services.
Covacevich characterised Miller’s appointment as a strategic investment in the firm’s disputes and tax capabilities amid rising scrutiny and complexity in the tax arena.
“Clients are facing unprecedented levels of regulatory focus and increasingly sophisticated revenue authority activity,” Covacevich said in the media release.
Covacevich highlighted the firm’s efforts to grow its tax disputes practice nationwide.
“Rimma’s appointment complements the outstanding work of our broader disputes team, and positions us strongly for continued growth,” Covacevich said in the firm’s media release.
Miller’s LinkedIn profile provided more information regarding her professional experience and educational background.
She worked as a partner at MinterEllison in the Greater Sydney Area from July 2019 to March 2026. She also served as special counsel for tax beginning in 2015 and joined the firm as a senior associate for tax in 2014.
Prior to joining MinterEllison, Miller served as a senior associate at Maddocks in the Greater Sydney Area from 2012–14 and as a senior litigator at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in the Greater Sydney Area from 2000–12.
During her time at the ATO, she gained insight into regulatory strategy, technical interpretation, and dispute management.
“Rimma’s depth of experience – particularly her rare combination of ATO and private practice expertise – will be invaluable to our clients navigating this environment,” Covacevich said in the media release.
Miller obtained her LLM from the University of Sydney. She earned her LLB and her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
