Who’s Who Legal crowns Rajah & Tann Singapore as Singapore’s top firm

Who’s Who Legal has crowned Rajah & Tann Singapore as Singapore’s top firm at its 2020 awards.

The London publication, which produces global directories of both lawyers and non-lawyer consultants, also named the firm’s managing partner Patrick Ang as its restructuring and insolvency Lawyer of the Year.

“Rajah & Tann and I are honoured to receive these awards, and I am particularly humbled by the recognition from such an esteemed publication,” Ang said. “We owe our success and achievements to our clients for their unstinting support through the years and the opportunities they have given to us to serve them.”

He also credited the firm’s achievement to its roster.

“The awards belong to our entire team of very professional lawyers whose hard work and dedication have enabled us to deliver consistently high standards of service,” Ang said.

Ang ascended to the role of managing partner in April of last year, succeeding Eng Beng Lee. He has received recognition from Chambers Global, IFLR1000 and The Legal 500. In 2018, he was the first Singaporean to be inducted as an American College of Bankruptcy Fellow, and only the fourth Asian lawyer to be admitted.

The national awards cover more than 70 jurisdictions globally, and recognise both individual practitioners and firms in 35 practice areas and sectors. Exceptional performance awardees are determined based on in-depth assessment, research and findings, Rajah & Tann said.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the firm has thrived this year, nabbing APAC Firm of the Year at the Asialaw Awards along with several other accolades. The Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific Awards 2020 also named Rajah & Tann as Singapore Firm of the Year, as well as Commercial & Transactions Firm of the Year.

Moreover, the firm’s RTA DNA project, which aimed to align IT standards and support throughout its regional network, won Rajah & Tann the Financial Times’ Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers 2020 award.

Recently, the firm rolled out a new contract management platform, with the Singapore branch being the first to utilise it.
