HopgoodGanim Lawyers has appointed Steven Hunwicks as the new head of its cyber security practice.

The firm said that the appointment “comes at a time when managing cyber security risks and building cyber security resilience has never been more important and is at the forefront of our clients’ minds.” IPTC practice leader Hayden Delaney confirmed that in Hunwicks’ new role, he will “work proactively with clients in their cyber security assessments and preparedness to ensure a successful incident response.”

The firm’s cyber security offering covers the full cyber security lifecycle, from cyber security preparedness through to incident response and recovery. Hunwicks will be supported by the firm’s corporate and litigation teams as well as HopgoodGanim’s non-legal governance and risk consultants.

Hunwicks is currently a special counsel in the firm’s intellectual property, technology, and cyber security (IPTC) team. He has advised businesses and government bodies, on cyber security preparedness, cyber incident response, data privacy, and large-scale technology projects and contracting for more than 20 years.

He is a member of the Queensland Law Society (QLS) cyber security working group.
