Mills Oakley snags six-strong team in Canberra
Just over three years since it opened its doors in Canberra, Mills Oakley has increased its staff in the city to more than 50.

The announcement came as the firm named Ben Gulan as partner in Canberra. He joined the firm’s property team, bringing with him a team of five from McInnes Wilson.

Gulan is an expert in commercial, industrial, and residential/mixed-use developments, as well as land subdivisions and community title schemes. He has been involved in some of the largest developments in the ACT, including joint ventures with the state government.

Mills Oakley said Gulan will work closely with property partner Adam Peppinck and will advise clients in both the government and private sectors.

John Nerurker, Mills Oakley chief executive, said that the hiring of Gulan and his team will enhance the firm’s capacity to service large private-sector residential developments. He also said the appointments are a major milestone for the firm.

“Reaching 50 staff is a notable milestone for our Canberra office, but even more enhancements are planned and we look forward to making other announcements in the coming weeks,” Nerurker said.

The firm hired Luke Geary, the founder and managing partner of humanitarian law firm Salvos Legal, earlier this month. Geary will relocate to Queensland to lead the firm’s not-for-profit team in Brisbane when he returns to his old firm on 20 November.

In September, the firm brought in partner Louise Cantrill from Henry Davis York in Sydney.
