White & Case has elected a new chair in New York-based litigator Heather McDevitt.

McDevitt succeeds outgoing chair Hugh Verrier. She officially steps into the role on 1 September.

“It is a great honour to be elected by my fellow partners as chair of White & Case. I look forward to working with our talented and dedicated partners and colleagues across the globe to ensure our firm continues to provide exceptional service to our clients”, McDevitt said. “Building upon the success that has defined our journey under Hugh’s leadership, I am dedicated to the continued growth of our firm in the years to come”.

McDevitt has been a partner with White & Case since 2002. She has gone on to head up the firm’s pharmaceutical and healthcare global industry group – a role she held from 2013 to 2019. She joined the firm’s partnership committee in 2015, and became one of the four members of White & Case’s global executive committee in 2019.

In her practice, she has acted for global organisations in significant disputes, and has appeared before state and federal trial and appellate courts across the US.

Verrier congratulated McDevitt on the appointment.

“White & Case is a great law firm with a great future under her leadership. It has been and remains my privilege to lead it through a period of remarkable change over the past 16 years”, he said.
