Hyne Group legal head elected ACC global chair

Hyne Group head of group legal, commercial, procurement Mike Madden has been elected the global chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) for 2022.

Based in Brisbane, he is the first Australian resident to hold the position, and only the second Australian to do so after Dubai-based Anneliese Reinhold stepped into the role in 2020.

“Mike Madden exemplifies the modern evolution of the in-house counsel role. Through nearly two decades of legal experience in Australia and the United States, Mike brings a keen understanding of how to counsel organisations in a global business environment on an increasing number of issues — just like many of our members do each day,” ACC President and CEO Veta T. Richardson said. “His global perspective, along with his deep understanding of environmental, social, and governance issues, will benefit ACC greatly in the year ahead.”

Madden joined the organisation in 2012. He sat on the board of directors for ACC’s Australia chapter, and was named a global board member in 2015.

“I am honoured to join such an esteemed group of board chairs who hail from around the world, including the Middle East, Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States. It is a great credit to ACC that over the years we’ve continued to strengthen the diversity of our board – in terms of gender, cultural perspective, industry experience, and geographic location – to better represent and meet the needs of ACC’s members,” Madden said.

He said that he intends to keep on backing the organisation’s ESG initiatives, “improving DEI within the in-house community, innovating how we deliver services and resources to our members, and ensuring that ACC continues to have a long and successful future ahead of it.”

“As board chair, I welcome this unique and rewarding opportunity to work closely with our current and incoming board members, and the very talented ACC staff, to accomplish our collective goals to help ACC better serve our 45,000 members around the world,” Madden said.

Supporting Madden as 2022 board officers are Australia-based vice chair Adrian Goss, the GC and general manager of Are Media; US-based treasurer Tracy Preston, the EVP, CLO, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer of HanesBrands, Inc.; and US-based secretary Rob Falk, the GC of Truth Initiative.

The following have been appointed new members of the global board:

  • Sahia Ahmad, UAE – GC, Dubai Tourism
  • Kobie Conner, US – director, business and legal affairs, independent films, Netflix, Inc.
  • Eitan Israeli, Israel – CLO, Wix.com Ltd.
  • Shannon Klinger, US – CLO and corporate secretary, Moderna
  • Justin Martin, US – technical in-house executive, Electric Power Research Institute
