HSF nabs ex-national leader of Deloitte’s M&A and financial services tax practices

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has nabbed James Pettigrew, former national leader of Deloitte’s M&A and financial services tax practice groups, as its newest tax advisory partner.

Pettigrew brings significant experience gained from over 30 years of providing legal guidance on “large-scale domestic and in-bound M&A transactions, alongside outbound fund structuring and capital management, and their unique tax considerations”, HSF said.

In addition to the expertise developed while he was with Deloitte, Pettigrew also logged a tenure of over two decades with former HSF affiliate Greenwoods.

“We need practitioners like James who can provide expert guidance on the myriad of taxation considerations”, explained Carolyn Pugsley, managing partner for corporate. “James’ addition is the next step in this plan to align our market-leading transaction offering with the full suite of complementary specialisations including stamp duty and tax disputes expertise that our clients expect from a full-service firm”.

Pettigrew will begin working from HSF’s Sydney office later this year.
