The Australian director will become the firm’s first ever general counsel and company secretary

Global NewLaw firm appoints Australian lawyer to leadership role
Lawyers On Demand has appointed Jamie Prell, its Australian legal director, to a newly created global role.

Prell has been selected to be LOD’s inaugural general counsel and company secretary, a post created due to business needs. Prell, a founding director of predecessor firm AdventBalance, has over 30 years’ experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer. Prell, who spent 18 years as a partner at what is now King & Wood Mallesons, specialises in mergers and acquisitions, commercial and governance work.

AdventBalance merged with LOD in 2016. LOD is a successful offshoot of UK firm Berwin Leighton Paisner, which still has interest in the firm.

Ken Jagger, global COO, LOD continues to explore growth opportunities. He said that as the firm continues to expand, the regulatory and legal complexity has increased and the need for a full-time internal general counsel has become evident. He said that Prell’s background as a Mallesons M&A partner and his deep knowledge of the business and the global legal industry make him the perfect choice for the role.

Prell said he is delighted to contribute to LOD at an international level.

“LOD now has offices in 5 countries, with over 600 lawyers and consultants across the globe working for clients in numerous jurisdictions. With ever increasing legal complexity, the time is right to have a dedicated general counsel,” he said.

With both a global and regional focus, Prell will concentrate on various matters for the firm, including regulatory and compliance issues across all of LOD’s jurisdictions, M&A opportunities, and other strategic initiatives. Regionally, He will continue to support the Australian lawyers as legal director.
