Dowson Turco Lawyers participated in the second annual ACON Love Social event held in Sydney last week.

The event focused on offering a safe and inclusive environment where attendees from the community could connect, celebrate and support one another.

“The LOVE Social Celebration is a vital initiative in bringing together our older LGBTQ+ communities, reducing social isolation and creating a supportive environment. The ongoing support from Dowson Turco plays a crucial role in making these events successful and impactful”, said Russ Gluyas of ACON’s LOVE Project.

Dowson Turco partner Nicholas Stewart delivered an address at the event. In his speech, he highlighted the firm’s focus on equality and diversity and its distinction as “Australia’s only Out Loud and Proud LGBTQ+ law firm”.

He also emphasised the need of the LGBTQ+ elders community for increased support. He pointed to LGBTIQ+ Health Australia’s recent submission to the Federal Government’s 10-Year National Action Plan for LGBTQ Health and Wellbeing, which called for more funding for the purposes of developing guiding principles that help health networks bolster the health and wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community.

The submission also recommended the expansion of the LGBTQ+ aged care volunteer visitors scheme to reach regional and rural areas.

At last year Australasian Law Awards, Dowson Turco picked up the win for Diversity Initiative of the Year
