Highlight: 2023 Diversity Initiative of the Year winner 'just wants lawyers'

For Dowson Turco Lawyers partner Nicholas Stewart, “we just want lawyers”.

The firm prides itself on being “LGBT lawyers for all communities”, according to Stewart, and was rewarded for its mindset when it was awarded the win for Diversity Initiative of the Year at the 2023 Australasian Law Awards.

Judges described Dowson Turco Lawyers as having “impressive and tangible contributions that deserve recognition”. The firm, judges said, “used their skills and resources to make meaningful change and a significant impact beyond the firm”.

With the win, Dowson Turco Lawyers bested top firms like Allens, Bird & Bird, Clayton Utz, Dentons, Hall & Wilcox and Harmers Workplace Lawyers in this category.

“We work across Australia to help the LGBT community, minority groups that need help”, Stewart told Australasian Lawyer on the red carpet. “We have the best workplace ourselves because we don’t care where you’ve come from, we just want lawyers, and the more diversity we have means our clients also get the best advice and representation”.
