Corporate finance specialist Richard Hayes has joined the K&L Gates partnership.

He makes the jump from Hogan Lovells, and brings with him more than 25 years of experience not just in Australia, but in the UK and New York as well. In addition to his specialisation in corporate finance, Hayes has particular expertise in acquisition and funds financings.

He has also handled the financing of restructurings, recapitalisations and work-outs, as well as multi-jurisdictional financing arrangements. He has provided advice to international investment banks, commercial banks, debt funds and private equity firms, among others.

With recapitalisation and work-outs being especially crucial in the current environment, Hayes cited the opportunity to work with K&L Gates’ restructuring and insolvency team as a driver of his decision to become part of the firm.

“My practice is truly international and I look forward to leveraging the strength of K&L Gates' global platform, including collaborating with the firm’s highly regarded restructuring and insolvency, tax and corporate teams, to the benefit of my clients,” he said.

With Hayes’ addition to its Sydney branch, K&L Gates bolsters its finance practice.

“Richard’s appointment provides our finance practice with a broader service offering and significantly deeper coverage in relation to the financing of acquisitions and debt capital markets generally,” Australia managing partner Nick Nichola said.

Nichola said that given the current challenges faced by clients, Hayes’ experience makes him the “ideal lawyer to assist.”

“Richard has a reputation for taking on tough and complex work. As our clients respond to the challenges of 2020, he is the ideal lawyer to assist them to achieve the best possible risk mitigation and to seize the opportunities that are available in today's market,” Nichola said.

Earlier this year, K&L Gates elevated a number of Australian lawyers to the partnership –notably, three of its new partners for the year are women who work part-time.
