In addition to promoting one lawyer, the firm has also recruited another from a national firm
Carter Newell has grown its partnership with two appointments.
Katherine Hayes has been promoted from special counsel, while Kelly Alcorn joins the firm from HWL Ebsworth, where she was also a partner.
Paul Hopkins, Carter Newell senior partner, said that in addition to the talent the lawyers bring to the partnership, the appointments also add diversity to the firm’s senior ranks. He said the firm is committed to advancing staff on the basis of expert technical skills, excellent client service, and a commitment to the firm’s values. It is seeing more and more female lawyers ascend within the firm, he said.
Hayes, who specialises in insurance law, joined the firm in 2013 as a senior associate. She was promoted to special counsel last year. She has particular expertise in cyber risk, directors’ and officers’ claims, and professional indemnity.
Alcorn joins the firm’s planning and environment group and is an expert in due diligence, compliance, and training in the area. She also specialises in enforcement action, Planning and Environment Court applications and appeals, and Land Court proceedings. Her practice sees her regularly advising property, energy, resources, infrastructure, and government sector clients.
The partner appointments come after the firm promoted Laura Horvat, Elisha Goosem, and Milton Latta to special counsel last month.
