Buddle Findlay has congratulated Ed McGimpsey – a lawyer who has focused on construction, energy, and infrastructure projects – on his appointment as a partner in its Auckland property and construction team as of 1 April 2026. 

His biography on the firm’s website stated that his practice areas also include transport and local government. 

According to Buddle Findlay’s announcement, McGimpsey has represented various clients, including government entities and councils, sponsors, developers, contractors, subcontractors, service providers, and lenders dealing with a broad array of domestic and international projects. 

His advice to clients has spanned every stage of the project lifecycle, including procurement strategy and structuring, tendering, contract drafting and negotiation, contract administration, and dispute resolution. His experience has also extended to project finance transaction advice.

In Buddle Findlay’s Auckland commercial property and construction team, he worked as a senior associate from April 2020 to March 2026. NZ Lawyer recognised him as one of its Rising Stars in 2021. 

In Buddle Findlay’s Wellington commercial property and construction team, McGimpsey served as a senior solicitor from January 2016 to April 2016, as a solicitor from September 2012 to December 2015, and as a law clerk from November 2011 to September 2012. 

Apart from his work at Buddle Findlay, he belonged to the London infrastructure, energy, and natural resources practice of Slaughter and May. 

In the UK “Magic Circle” law firm, McGimpsey served as an associate from April 2016 to March 2020. His practice at Slaughter and May focused on procurement, construction, and the operation and maintenance aspects of significant developments and power projects. 

On a secondment, he acted as legal counsel in the legal division (European construction) at Lendlease in the UK from March 2019 to October 2019. 

Also as a secondee, McGimpsey was legal counsel in the legal and governance division at Contact Energy Ltd in Wellington from November 2012 to July 2013. 

He earned admission as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in September 2012. He obtained his LLB and his BA in art history and political science from Victoria University of Wellington
