DLA Piper welcomes corporate, M&A, energy partner Rob Macredie

DLA Piper has added Rob Macredie to the corporate team in its Auckland office as a partner.

Macredie focuses on energy transition projects, energy M&A, commercial structuring, and significant transactions. He assists clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors, and brings a strong understanding of New Zealand’s market and regulatory landscape, according to the firm.

“We are delighted to welcome Rob to the firm,” said Natasha Luther-Jones, DLA Piper’s global co-chairperson of energy, in a press release. “He shares our vision of supporting clients as they lead the shift to sustainable infrastructure and future-focused energy models.”

Macredie’s experience spans power purchase agreements (PPAs), significant project acquisitions, and high-profile renewable developments. For instance, he advised:

  • a trans-Tasman joint venture on a series of solar project acquisitions with a total capacity of around 200 megawatts to support the business arrangement’s strategic goals to develop a renewable asset portfolio and drive renewable generation

  • a solar developer regarding its equity capital raise for a portfolio of five solar projects, including its corporate and project structuring and related capital and share class aspects

“Clients have described Rob as a trusted adviser who understands the full picture - from strategic governance and capital structuring through to project and deal execution,” said Laura Scampion, DLA Piper’s New Zealand managing partner.

Macredie gained experience with cross-border matters while working in Australia and the UK. With a background in corporate and commercial law, he has handled M&A, corporate governance matters, joint ventures, private capital, and capital raisings.

He is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, a solicitor registered with the Law Society of New South Wales, and a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. He obtained his LLB from the University of Auckland.

“His appointment strengthens our cross-border capabilities and further deepens our presence in the region,” Luther-Jones said.

Scampion praised Macredie’s depth of experience across corporate, projects and complex energy matters. DLA Piper said Macredie’s appointment comes at a time of rising demand from the firm’s clients for legal assistance in New Zealand’s energy, infrastructure, and private capital sectors. The firm said Macredie’s addition seeks to help the firm assist its clients with the development, investment, and delivery of clean energy projects and infrastructure.
