The New Zealand Law Society’s new partnership with Gallagher Insurance enables the insurer to offer LawSure – its comprehensive professional indemnity insurance product created exclusively for New Zealand lawyers – as well as educational and development opportunities.

LawSure is underwritten by Agile Insurance Group NZ Limited, a Lloyd’s of London syndicate, and available only to the law society’s members and law firms complying with the membership eligibility criteria.

The law society’s statement provides information on the relevant membership thresholds to avail of LawSure.

Amanda Woodbridge, the law society’s general manager for representative services and strategy, called the new partnership a milestone for the law society’s membership and an important addition to its partner program, which aims to offer members great value.

“It is something that we have been working hard to achieve over many months,” Woodbridge said in the statement.

Coverage

According to information from Gallagher’s website, LawSure was designed with small firms and sole practitioners in mind.

Gallagher said LawSure’s policy limits align with the law society’s minimum regulatory requirements. According to Gallagher, LawSure provides:

  • $500,000 maximum cover for regulatory complaints
  • fidelity coverage against losses from employees’ dishonest or fraudulent acts
  • cover for anti-money laundering fines and penalties for unintentional breaches of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009
  • coverage for irrecoverable fees and disbursements

Gallagher added that it also offers customised services to support the law society’s members, including claims services, managed with a panel of defence lawyers.

Education

“If you’re considering your insurances, now may be a good time to talk with Gallagher, and get independent insurance advice,” Woodbridge said in the law society’s statement. “As well as insurance services and expertise, Gallagher also supports education, reflecting our shared commitment to a strong, progressive and trusted legal profession.”

The law society said the newly announced partnership covers development opportunities, including Managing Professional Risk, a webinar set for 9 October 2025. The law society added that all members of the profession could attend, with its members offered a special rate.

Gallagher has provided professional indemnity insurance, risk management, and consulting services, as well as practical education and risk management resources. The law society’s statement noted that Gallagher seeks to assist lawyers dealing with current and emerging risks.
