Rebecca Richter and Jordan Todd have been promoted to senior associates in a recent promotions round at Wellington firm Ford Sumner Lawyers.

Richter focuses on construction law. She has advised on matters involving the legal and regulatory frameworks governing construction projects and has tackled issues arising throughout the project lifecycle as well as disputes related to contract performance, delays, and claims.

She has drafted and negotiated contracts in addition to conducting risk management and dispute resolution. She has particular experience with NZS, FIDIC, JCT, and NEC standard form contracts.

Richter was admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2017. She has logged stints at Parker & Associates Barristers and Solicitors, Gibson Sheat, Devonshires in London, and Beale & Co, according to LinkedIn.

Todd practises with Ford Sumner’s commercial and corporate team, concentrating on commercial leasing matters. He has tackled matters involving complex design and build projects, airport estate leasing and licensing arrangements, earthquake strengthening issues, and dispute resolution between landlords and tenants in addition to workplace matters.

He has handled company, trust, not-for-profit and general commercial contracting matters issues. His clients have included government agencies, airports and landlords with significant national property portfolios, as well as those in the aviation, hospitality/retail, real estate, property and not-for-profit sectors.

In the same promotions round, Ford Sumner also elevated Fenella Smith to senior lawyer. She commenced with the firm in 2023 after obtaining her degree from the Victoria University of Wellington.

She works with the firm’s commercial team and has worked on business and share sales, privacy issues, terms of trade, and incorporated society matters. She also has experience with property law, particularly commercial leasing and residential property transactions, and has worked on private client matters. She has guided clients on issues related to wills, trusts and enduring powers of attorney.

Ford Sumner concentrates on corporate, commercial, dispute resolution and employment law.
