Meredith Connell has announced its intent to focus on public interest and litigation work.

According to chair Sean Kinsler, the new direction will concentrate on the firm’s foundational work. The firm was granted the warrant as Office of the Crown Solicitor at Auckland in 1921 and has held on to it since then.

“In addition to the Crown itself, most of our clients are central government agencies, commercial regulators, and regional and local government – reflecting our shared commitment to acting in the public interest”, Kinsler said. “Serving these clients and the community has always been what we’re about. We’re now deliberately deepening that commitment and strengthening our focus on what we do best”.

He added that Meredith Connell was heading into 2026 with a high workload.

In November 2024, Meredith Connell partner Steve Symon was appointed chair of the ministerial advisory group focused on transnational and serious organised crime. In February 2023, partner Alysha McClintock was named the Crown Solicitor for Auckland, Te Rōia Matua a Te Karauna ki Tāmaki Makaurau.

Earlier this year, the firm celebrated the admission of the following new lawyers in Auckland and Wellington:

  • Alani Butters (Ngāti Kahungungu ki Te Wairoa)
  • Arahi K. von Sturmer-Karanui (Te Aupōuri, Te Rarawa and Ngāti Kurī)
  • Kiani Bullivant (Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Rongomai)
  • Lisa C.
  • Manawa Te Ahuru-Quinn (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Rarawa)
  • Ralph Zambrano

In June, Meredith Connell also promoted 20 in one of its biggest promotions rounds.
