Kensington Swan shortlisted for 2019 Diversity Awards NZ

Kensington Swan has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 Diversity Awards NZ.

Run by Diversity Works New Zealand, the national body for workplace diversity and inclusion, the awards celebrate leaders in promoting and supporting workplace diversity and inclusion in the country.

The 37 finalists were selected from 76 entries. Kensington Swan is shortlisted for the Empowerment award, which recognises innovative responses to empowering women in the workplace.

Kensington Swan said that its long-running diversity initiatives has created a culture, supported by formal policies, that has remove some of the traditional barriers to women reaching senior roles.

“Kensington Swan currently has 30 full-equity partners, of whom 11, or 36%, are women. This is something we are proud to be championing within the legal profession,” said Emma Gibbins, Kensington Swan people director

“It is fantastic that the work the firm is doing to advance gender equity in the workplace has been independently recognised with our selection in the shortlist. Our ultimate aim is to enable our talented staff, irrespective of gender, to have the successful careers that their expertise and diligence deserve,” she said.

Charles Spillane, Kensington Swan chief executive, said that the firm has a strong focus on empowering its entire team regardless each member’s gender.

“It is fantastic that the firm is a finalist for this prestigious award as it recognises our commitment to, and progression we have made in, creating a workplace where all our people are able to achieve their full potential,” he said.  “There is still a long way to go to achieve the balance we believe is needed. As a firm we are committed to helping empower our staff to break down barriers that have traditionally existed.”

The firm also congratulated fellow finalists for the Empower award, which are Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, She Sharp, and Vector. Winners of the 2019 Diversity Awards NZ will be announced at a gala dinner at the Cordis in Auckland on 28 August.
