Highlight: Award-winning GC meets the business where it works

At Sharesies, GC Natalie Bryant and her legal team aim to meet the business where it works. The team has shown no fear of innovation, adopting the necessary tech to stay on top of the market.

The Sharesies legal team has been utilising Slack to keep up with conversations, and has brought in legal innovators to help build an automated legal intake and triage system. The system capitalises on its existing business intranet Notion, and resulted in greater engagement with legal tools.

“As a member of the Sharesies leadership team, I have been focused on how we continue to deliver and prioritise projects to launch into new territories,” said Bryant, who won the Lane Neave In-house Lawyer of the Year award at the 2021 New Zealand Law Awards. “Adapting to all remote ways of working and aligning on priorities and risks as a business has meant redistributing time and resources to meet those new demands.”

Bryant has been a part of the fintech company since its early days, and has used resources wisely to supplement her legal work. She has utilised secondees, alternative service providers and traditional law firms effectively.

“As one of the first employees at Sharesies, I have experienced incredible growth and learning over the years and feel privileged to be part of its success story. Being recognised as a leader in the in-house lawyer community amongst peers means the world to me and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” she said.

The 2022 New Zealand Law Awards opened the floor for nominations on 23 May.
