Former New Zealand solicitor-general Una Jagose KC has commenced as a barrister at Clifton Chambers.

Jagose had stepped down as Te Rōia Mātāmua o te Karauna o Aotearoa in February, having been in the role a decade (2016-2026). Before taking on that post, she practised in the public service sector for 35 years.

She specialises in handling public law, regulatory and constitutional matters. She appeared before all levels of New Zealand courts and commissions of inquiry.

Over a 20-year period, Jagose spearheaded major public and constitutional law cases. She went on to serve as chief executive of Crown Law and acting director of the Government Communications Security Bureau, bolstering her knowledge of governance, organisational design, ethics and conduct issues.

She obtained her LLB at the University of Otago Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka and her LLM (first class honours) at the Victoria University of Wellington Te Herenga Waka. At Clifton Chambers, she will operate from Wellington.

Following Jagose’s departure from the solicitor-general role, then-attorney general Judith Collins announced in March that Bankside Chambers’ Anna Adams had taken over the post. Collins was replaced by Chris Bishop as attorney-general last month.
