Wellington-based Thorndon Chambers has expanded its barrister ranks with the addition of Seb Bisley, reported the New Zealand Law Society.

Bisley joins the chambers after an eight year-stint with Buddle Findlay, where he was a senior litigation partner. His broad litigation practice has a particular focus on commercial, regulatory, and administrative law.

He regularly advises clients on matters involving local government, construction, insolvency, ICT disputes, and judicial review. He has appeared before all levels of New Zealand courts and represented clients in various arbitration and mediation proceedings.

Bisley has also experience advising regulators on investigations and investigatory powers. He has acted for defendants in prosecutions under the Fair-Trading Act 1986 and the Overseas Investment Act 2005 and conducted complex appeals involving decisions under the Accident Compensation Act 2001.

He frequently speaks at events and conferences on insolvency, contract law, and ICT disputes. He was named Benchmark Litigation’s New Zealand Lawyer of the Year in 2019, and has also been recognised by the Legal 500, Doyle’s Guide, and Who’s Who Legal for his expertise in restructuring and insolvency.
