Cooney Lees Morgan partner Mary Hill retires to join independent bar

Cooney Lees Morgan partner Mary Hill has retired from the firm to become a barrister sole.

Hill has made the move to Kate Sheppard Chambers and will be operating from Mount Maunganui.

The former Resource Management Law Association president focuses on resource management, planning, and local government law. A litigation specialist, she has appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court.

Hill is an independent officer under the Protected Disclosures (Whistleblowing) legislation. She has conducted independent investigations into complaints related to local authority code of conduct.

She has chaired panels under the Covid Fast Track consenting legislation and the Fast Track Act. Moreover, she is an associate member of the NZ Planning Institute.

Hill has a masters of commercial law degree specialising in competition law and IP. She is a faculty member under the NZLS Litigation Skills programme.

Last year, she was named among NZ Lawyer's Elite Women for 2024.

Cooney Lees Morgan praised Hill's work at the firm in the past two decades.

"While we will miss Mary and wish to recognise her significant contribution to the firm, we are excited to see what the future holds for her. We look forward to working with Mary in her new role", the firm said.
