New Zealand’s peak dispute resolution body has elected two lawyers to its ruling council.
The Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ) confirmed that Nicole Smith, a barrister and arbitration practitioner based in Tauranga, has been appointed to its council.
Smith has more than 18 years’ experience advising clients in all aspects of arbitration and dispute resolution. She has particular expertise in matters that have an international element. She is a consultant solicitor of Keystone Law UK.
Smith is joined by Bell Gully partner Sophie East, who has been elected for another term. She holds an LLM degree from Harvard Law School and is based in Bell Gully’s Auckland office.
Before moving back to New Zealand, East, who specialises in commercial litigation and arbitration, spent four years at elite New York firm White & Case. She was also previously a Russell McVeagh solicitor.
Smith and East join Mark Colthart, Royden Hindle, Nicola Hartfield and Mark Kelly, and John Walton, president of the AMINZ council.
