2024 KC appointments round announced

2024 KC appointments round announced

A new round of appointments for King’s Counsel (KC) will be made for this year, announced Attorney-General Judith Collins.

The application period kicks off on 1 March and close on 29 March. New KCs are expected to be named in July.

NZ Bar Association President Maria Dew KC said that the announcement was “particularly welcome” given that no appointments round was held last year. The Bar Association and the NZ Law Society will both be consulted by the solicitor-general on the process.

The governor-general appoints KCs based on the recommendation of the attorney-general and the agreement of the chief justice, the Bar Association confirmed. The guidelines and application form have been provided on the Crown Law website.
