Moray & Agnew has added Kate Cooch – who has over 15 years of experience in medical malpractice and health law – to its partnership in the national law firm’s health law team in Melbourne, Victoria. 

“Kate’s promotion reflects her outstanding contribution to the team, the firm and clients - we are proud to welcome her to the partnership,” said Bill Papastergiadis, Melbourne managing partner, in a media release from the firm.

Cooch’s biography on the firm’s website provided more information regarding her practice, educational background, and organizational memberships. 

She has appeared in coronial matters in Victoria and New South Wales. She has also offered ongoing advice regarding the general liability and indemnity scheme for Victoria’s public hospitals. 

According to her firm bio, Cooch has acted for: 

  • medical defendants in claims and investigations involving non-tuberculous mycobacteria, catastrophic and birth injuries, injuries during clinical trials, and allegations of sexual assault, misreported radiological imaging, wrongful birth, and mismanaged psychiatric treatment 
  • public and private hospitals, medical practitioners, radiology service providers, paramedics, nursing and allied health staff, dentists and in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinics in connection with medical malpractice claims, incident investigation, risk management, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) investigations, and coronial inquests and enquiries 
  • statutory bodies in disciplinary proceedings 
  • clients facing high-profile and sensitive cases before the Victorian Supreme and County Courts and the NSW Supreme and District Courts 

She earned her LLB (honours) and BA from Monash University in 2008. She is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and Women in Insurance.
