Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills welcomes new projects and infrastructure head

Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills has welcomed partner Jillian Gardner as its new projects and infrastructure head.

Gardner, who was brought on board to bolster the firm’s projects and infrastructure tax offering, has more than two decades of experience in infrastructure and broader funds management.

“We are delighted to have Jillian on board in what is a rapidly evolving time in Australian infrastructure. We know our clients and our people will be greatly supported by Jillian’s strong tax technical background, significant commercial experience and industry relationships,” managing partner Manuel Makas said.

Prior to making the jump to Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills, Gardner was a division director at Macquarie’s MIRA Group.

“The definition of infrastructure continues to evolve as we see a greater focus on digital and the expansion of social infrastructure,” Gardner said.

She pointed to green energy, particularly the eye on waste to energy, as factors that are moulding the infrastructure market.

“We are watching to see what Australian outbound opportunities may come out of the new US infrastructure plan. All in all, it’s an exciting time to be in infrastructure,” Gardner said.

While with MIRA Group, she took charge of establishing and spearheading the tax aspects of several high-profile funds, the firm said. Her work was not just limited to Australia, but also led to a three-year stint in New York.

Gardner joins Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills’ Sydney office. Her appointment highlights the firm’s commitment to generating and offering leadership opportunities, the firm said.
