Withers snaps up Simmons & Simmons litigator for HK office

Withers has snapped up Simmons & Simmons commercial litigator Joseph Chu for its Hong Kong office.

The hire of Chu, who has more than two decades in the field under his belt, bolsters Withers’ litigation and international arbitration offering in Asia.

“Hong Kong is one of the top locations for cross border litigation and arbitration as it offers parties a transparent and user-friendly platform, coupled with reciprocity with Mainland China. Joseph's joining adds to our capabilities to serve our clients in Greater China and beyond,” dispute resolution partner Rita Ku said.

Chu’s experience lies in cross-border commercial litigation and international arbitration. He has tackled high-value disputes, contract and shareholder disputes and family and estate disputes.

He has also conducted regulatory investigations and worked on issues involving compliance, trusts and restructuring and insolvency. His client base includes Greater China-based and multinational companies, executives and boards.

Chu has been ranked in Chambers Global and Chambers Asia Pacific as an international arbitration expert.

“Joseph's commercial litigation and arbitration practice adds greatly to Withers' global dispute resolution offering and expertise. We are delighted to continue growing our capability in Asia to deliver high quality international commercial litigation and arbitration services for our clients,” Wood said.

Chu, who is a qualified practitioner in Hong Kong, the UK and the PRC, highlighted the value of Withers’ global connections.

“I am excited to be part of Withers' international dispute resolution practice. The firm's robust global network of expertise will allow me to provide my clients with a full-service offering that will undoubtedly prove to be invaluable,” he said.
