His experience extends to corporate governance and securities law
Clayton Utz has announced the appointment of Mark Malinas – a senior partner at Allens’ corporate and mergers and acquisitions team with deep experience in domestic and cross-border M&A – as a partner and its private equity head.
Malinas has headed Allens’ Melbourne M&A team. In a media release, Clayton Utz called him one of the country’s most experienced private equity lawyers.
“Mark brings more than 20 years’ specialist experience in mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions, including buyouts and exits,” said Emma Covacevich, Clayton Utz chief executive partner, in the firm’s media release.
“Alongside that deep private capital and corporate M&A experience, he has also advised extensively on corporate governance, board advisory matters, and securities law,” Covacevich added.
Covacevich expressed her belief that Malinas’s addition would boost the Australian law firm’s transactional capabilities and arrive at a time featuring strong momentum in private markets and clear and consistent market activity.
“The increasing shift in capital flows is playing an increasingly important role in our market,” Covacevich noted. “With Mark’s experience — and his strong ties to both local and international investors — we’re even better positioned to support our clients as private capital flows continue to grow.”
His biography on Allens’ website provides more information on his work experience.
Based in Melbourne, Malinas has sat on the Allens board for a decade and chaired the firm’s risk and remuneration committees. According to his firm bio, his practice has focused on M&A, private equity buyouts and exits, corporate governance, and securities law.
“He brings expertise across both domestic and cross-border M&A and has strong connections with listed and unlisted companies, as well as financial sponsors,” Covacevich said in the media release.
According to his firm bio, his work has spanned the industrial, private capital, and technology, media, and telecommunications sectors. He has belonged to the Australian Investment Council and the Law Institute of Victoria.
“He has also been consistently recognised by major international legal directories as a leading practitioner in his field,” Covacevich said in the media release.
According to his LinkedIn page, Malinas previously worked as a solicitor at the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and as a paralegal at Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks. He earned his biochemistry major, maths minor, and LLB (honours) from Monash University.
