M&A specialist makes partner at Shearman & Sterling

M&A specialist Richard Porter has been elevated to partner at Shearman & Sterling.

During his time with the firm, the newly promoted lawyer has tackled public and private M&A transactions, joint ventures, equity issues and restructurings. Many of the matters he has taken on have been cross-border deals.

“Richard's well-deserved promotion is a recognition of his wide-ranging expertise advising clients on a broad range of transactions as well as his dedication to the firm,” said global managing partner George Casey, who also leads the global M&A practice at Shearman & Sterling.

Accompanying the promotion was the announcement that Porter would be leaving his London base to join the firm’s Singapore branch.

“Richard has made valuable contributions to our global M&A practice, and he will enhance our offering in Asia,” senior partner David Beveridge said.

The Singapore office had recently welcomed David Clinch to the development and finance team.

“Richard's election to the partnership is part of our long-term strategy to continue to grow core practices globally through recognising and rewarding internal talent as well as attracting lateral partners,” Beveridge explained.

In July, Shearman & Sterling added 14 to its partnership. This year, the firm has attracted 17 new lawyers across its international offices.
