KWM to welcome competition partner Jennifer Barron in June

King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has announced the appointment of Jennifer Barron, who will be part of the national competition team and based in the Sydney office as of June.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer to KWM,” said Renae Lattey, the firm’s chief executive partner.

Barron was general counsel for merger reform at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), a role she was appointed to in February. She had been deputy general counsel for mergers, exemptions, and digital since February 2021, according to her LinkedIn page.

“Her strong blend of experience at the regulator, including with the merger reform, and private practice combined with our existing national competition bench strength will be invaluable as we support our clients in navigating the complexities of this major overhaul of Australia’s merger regime,” Lattey said.

Barron has two decades of private practice experience, which includes challenging merger clearances and competition matters. She worked from Gilbert + Tobin’s Sydney office as a partner from July 2018 to January 2021.

Her practice covers a wide range of traditional competition law areas, notably in the energy sector. Her experience includes transactions, corporate strategy, investigations, specialised training, and aspects of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, according to LinkedIn.

Barron graduated from the company directors’ course of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) in 2023 and qualified as a certified practising project practitioner for the Australian Institute of Project Management in 2018.

She obtained her BA degree in 1999 and her LLB with first-class honours in 2001, both from the University of Sydney. She also studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
