Keypoint Law has announced the appointment of Denise Wightman – a specialist in commercial law accredited with the Law Institute of Victoria – as a consulting principal who will add to its corporate, commercial, and property finance capabilities in Melbourne. 

She has garnered over two decades of experience in advising domestic and foreign clients on complex corporate, commercial, and property finance matters.

According to her biography on the firm’s website, as an accredited specialist in commercial law, Wightman has assisted clients with complex commercial issues arising as they establish, expand, protect, and exit their respective businesses. 

“Denise is a highly respected commercial lawyer with deep technical expertise and strong market credibility, particularly in property and property finance,” said Warren Kalinko, Keypoint Law’s chief executive officer, in a news release. 

In the property finance and investment space, Wightman has guided property developers, non‑bank lenders, borrowers, and high‑net‑worth individuals through the structuring of debt and equity transactions. 

According to her firm biography, her property finance experience has encompassed construction and passive lending, mezzanine finance and preferred equity funding, drafting and reviewing facility and security documentation, and intercreditor and subordination arrangements. 

Per her firm bio, Wightman has also helped clients navigate pre‑sale contract reviews, other due diligence matters, tripartite agreements with builders, Personal Property Securities Act 2009 matters, the registration and discharge of securities, and the sale of distressed assets.

Kalinko explained that Wightman’s addition reflects the firm’s focus on recruiting senior talent that specialises in their respective fields.

Beyond Keypoint

Before joining Keypoint Law, Wightman worked at Kalus Kenny Intelex. There, she served as a partner and leader of the firm’s cross‑disciplinary property finance team. 

Beyond her legal practice, she has authored the Australian chapters of numerous global reference guides. Her written work has explored acquisition finance and corporate governance law.
