PCL Lawyers – a national firm headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria – has promoted Nelson Arias-Alvarez to the position of Sydney managing partner to oversee its growing practice in Sydney, New South Wales.

“PCL Lawyers’ growth in Sydney is in response to our ability to attract clients and equips us to handle more complex legal challenges,” said Glenn Duker, managing partner, in the firm’s media release.

Arias-Alvarez, who belongs to the firm’s building and construction team, focuses his practice on commercial litigation, construction law, and project delivery.

In the realm of construction law, his clients have included developers, principal contractors, subcontractors, homeowners, engineers, superintendents, manufacturers, and architects, according to his LinkedIn page. He has handled construction projects in various sectors, including residential, civil and infrastructure, commercial, and industrial.

On the other hand, his commercial litigation work has spanned the areas of corporate insolvency, bankruptcy, professional negligence, competition law, property disputes, and equity and trust litigation.

Expansion in Sydney

Also joining the legal team in Sydney are Jack Chee, Peter Aked, and Erica Bosloper, who will all be serving as special counsel.

Chee, who has worked across Asia, has handled commercial litigation matters in relation to rebuilding and infrastructure projects. Aked’s legal experience, which spans three decades, has focused on banking and finance, litigation, and insolvency. Bosloper has handled complex litigation matters, including class actions.

Susan Su and Christina Spivak also recently joined as lawyers in the firm’s Sydney team.

With these hires, the firm aims to expand the range of services that it offers in Sydney. All in all, the recent appointments included practitioners focusing on the areas of building and construction law, litigation, banking and finance, insolvency, bankruptcy, debt recovery, and property law.

Back in April, PCL Lawyers announced that it was adding Arias-Alvarez and Claudio Venegas as partners in its Sydney office.

The firm expects its Melbourne team to support the expanded Sydney office. The firm also has an office in Brisbane, Queensland.

“At PCL Lawyers we have a very modern and forward-thinking approach which is a key part of our success in attracting both clients and skilled practitioners,” Duker said in the media release. “The entire team at PCL are focussed on delivering exceptional client experience and quality legal services.”
