Victoria welcomes two new judges to the County Court

The Victorian Government has announced the appointment of Liberty Sanger OAM and Michael Wise KC as judges to the County Court.

These appointments fill vacancies left by Justice Paul Cosgrave's move to the Supreme Court of Victoria and Judge Peter Wischusen's appointment as a reserve judge of the County Court. Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes congratulated Sanger and Wise, acknowledging the wealth of experience and expertise they bring to their new roles.

Sanger has a career rooted in Maurice Blackburn. She has been the national head of the personal injury team since 2018. As a principal since 2003, Sanger led the Victorian road and work injuries team from 2014 to 2018.

She also co-chaired the Ministerial Taskforce on Workplace Sexual Harassment in 2021, served on the Inquiry into Economic Equity for Victorian Women, and was a Ministerial Council on Women's Equality member for three years until 2020. Additionally, she chaired the Victorian Government's Equal Workplaces Advisory Council.

Wise brings three decades of experience as a barrister. He has served on the Victorian Bar News Committee, Indigenous Justice Committee, and the Equality and Diversity Committee. He presently chairs the Innovation and Technology Committee at the Victorian Bar and holds positions as trustee and deputy chairperson at McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery.

He earned silk status in 2017.
