Victoria Magistrates’ Court launches criminal case management system

The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) has announced the launch of the new case management system (CMS) portal for the criminal jurisdiction, which serves as a single point for criminal case management for legal practitioners and agencies to access essential information.

In its news release, the court noted that the portal has replaced eDocs and the electronic filing appearance system (EFAS) for the criminal jurisdiction.

The court shared that the portal includes the following new features for criminal case management:  electronic case initiation and document filing, digitised case records and case details, downloadable court orders and automated notifications, and access to the court’s listings diary.

In line with the portal’s help centre, the court explained that users should enrol in the portal, activate their account, and confirm that they can log in.

The court urged users to familiarise themselves with the use of the portal and the help centre’s available support and resources, such as demonstration videos and quick reference guides.

In its news release, the court said users could reach out to the pertinent court if they needed process support. The court added that users could fill in a “Contact CMS” online form, accessible via the help centre, if they encountered any access or technical issues relating to the portal.

Steps for a smooth transition

The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria previously announced efforts to help support the implementation of the new central digital platform for the criminal jurisdiction, including an extended outage of key systems, the scheduling of non-sitting days, and adjusted listings.

“MCV appreciates the understanding and cooperation of court users as we continue to deliver improved digital services that support modern, efficient case management,” the court said in a prior news release

The court expressed gratitude to court users for their continuing support for the digital transformation.
