The appointment is rare for the major American firm
In a rare move for Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, the firm has hired a dispute resolution partner from Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF).
James Norris-Jones has joined the American firm in London as the first lateral partner hire since 2012, when Cleary brought in former Stephenson Harwood CEO Sunil Gadhia.
Norris-Jones is a specialist in commercial dispute resolution and has particular focus on large-scale English High Court litigation and arbitration He advises on banking, contractual, shareholder and joint venture disputes, claims for breach of directors’ duties, and cases involving fraud and insolvency, Cleary said.
Gadhia, now a disputes partner at Cleary, said that Norris-Jones’ arrival strengthens the disputes practice. The new partner joins partners Gadhia, Jonathan Kelly, Christopher Moore, David Sabel, and Romano Subiotto QC in the firm’s litigation and arbitration practice in London.
