The senior lawyer moved to continue to service and grow the firm’s operations in Australasia
The joint head of the global mining practice of a top Canadian firm has returned to the firm’s Sydney office.
Quentin Markin began operating out of the Stikeman Elliott office at Three International Towers in Barangaroo on 1 January. The senior lawyer moved to continue to service and grow the firm’s international initiatives in Australasia, the firm said.
Stikeman is the only Canadian law firm with an Australian office, which it said is the hub of the firm’s Asia-Pacific practice and services for the firm’s clients in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
Markin was based in the firm’s Sydney office from 2011 to 2016, when he moved to the Vancouver office. He will continue his practice in the region, with the ability to provide clients access to a wide knowledge of the Australasian and Asian markets, as well as a broad network of legal and financial contacts, the firm said.
Marc Barbeau, Stikeman chairman, described the role as significant.
“Quentin’s ability to provide strategic advice to clients in the Australia and Asia-Pacific markets comes from an in-depth understanding of the region and our clients’ businesses, and a passion for supporting them on all fronts. I’m certain our clients doing business in the region will benefit tremendously from this move,” he said.
