Quinn Emanuel picks up seasoned IP litigator in Tokyo

Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has recruited a seasoned IP litigator in Tokyo.

York Faulkner has joined as a partner, moving to the firm from IP-specialist firm Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner. The high-stakes litigation lawyer brings to the firm more than 25 years’ experience, which includes a stint as a US federal prosecutor specialising in tax.

The new partner, who speaks and reads Japanese, has lived and worked predominantly in Japan since 1984. His global practice focuses on IP litigation in a wide range of industries.

John Quinn, managing partner, said that the firm has been looking to add the right person to its Tokyo office for a while. Ryan Goldstein, Tokyo managing partner, said that the office works with Japanese clients on a wide range of matters, from IP lawsuits to arbitration to government investigations, all in Japanese.

“York's practice fits perfectly with what we are doing in Japan,” Goldstein said.

Faulkner said that Japanese companies are investing heavily in the US and Europe and that Quinn Emanuel is best equipped to help those companies overcome legal challenges they face overseas.

Quinn Emanuel, which has more than 780 lawyers working out of 22 offices, is the world’s largest law firm solely focused on business litigation and arbitration.
