Perth boutique attracts partner from global firm

Grondal Bruining has attracted a senior lawyer from Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF).

Gary Thomas will join the Perth boutique law firm after finishing up at NRF, where he is a corporate and commercial partner.

He brings with him more than two decades’ experience, with a particular focus on the resources, healthcare, energy, and technology sectors. He will lead Grondal Bruining’s corporate practice, the firm said.

Grondal Bruining has also promoted Yvonne Jansen to principal. Jansen, who specialises in oil and gas and energy matters, was previously a special counsel. She was also a senior associate at Ashurst.

The firm has also recruited Lex Lanyon, who specialises in energy matters, as an associate. He moves to the firm from HFW.

Dean Grondal, the firm’s managing director, was excited that the firm is welcoming a corporate and commercial lawyer of Thomas’ calibre.

“This client driven expansion ensures that we will be able to support the needs of our existing clients while opening up new growth opportunities for the firm,” he said.

Grondal said that Jansen’s promotion recognises her expertise in her areas of focus and the loyal following of clients she has attracted.

Grondal Bruining was established by Darren Grondal and James Bruining in 2016, bucking the industry’s consolidation trend. Both were partners at Ashurst.

Dean Grondal was previously in-house counsel at Cristal. He was also the founding principal of Maxim Litigation.
