Owen Hodge Lawyers has appointed Kristy-Lee Burns as director and the firm’s first female equity partner.

The appointment, which was announced on 10 August, aligns Burns with fellow partners Rolf Howard and Roger Harkin. She will also sit on the board of directors.

Burns joined the firm in 2018 focusing on family and commercial law. For the past five years, she has led the family law department. She has trial experience related to complex family law matters involving trusts, commercial matters, and estate disputes.

Howard described Burns as an “exceptional lawyer, leader and champion for our clients”, and added that she “brings a fresh perspective” to the firm. He also said that she was “a natural leader”, having long been a mentor and role model for young solicitors in the firm.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to grow our important work in the family law space, especially with clients with complex needs which intersect with commercial law, and collaborating with our amazing team to secure the very best results for our clients,” Burns said.

Equity partner James Kelly is set to step down as director.
