New partners and special counsel named by Johnson Winter & Slattery
Johnson Winter & Slattery (JWS) has advanced seven senior practitioners, naming two new partners, four special counsel, and a senior associate in its 2017 promotions round.

In Sydney, Clare Brown and Ravi de Fonseka have been promoted to partner. Pravin Aathreya and Kathryn Bertram in Melbourne, Rosemary Tedesco in Sydney, and Andrew Wilton in Adelaide have been named the newest special counsel of the firm. Jocasta Giles, a dispute resolution lawyer in Sydney, has been elevated to senior associate.

Brown, who specialises in corporate and securities law, has a particular focus on the equity capital markets and venture capital. Advising clients including companies and investors in the healthcare, life sciences, biotechnology, and technology sectors, she acts in both domestic and cross-border matters, including on equity and hybrid insurance fundraisings, venture capital transactions, regulated and private M&A, business sales and acquisitions, securities regulatory issues, ESOPs, and other general corporate matters.

De Fonseka specialises in telecommunications and technology, acting in major projects that include joint ventures; system integrations; and outsourcings and procurement of hardware, software, and services.

Aathreya specialises in commercial litigation, focusing on product liability disputes, large-scale government and insolvency litigation, and energy and resources disputes.

Bertram specialises in state taxes (stamp duty, land tax), tax audits, and tax litigation (income tax, stamp duty, payroll tax and land tax).

Tedesco, a specialist in real estate, has acted in major projects in numerous states. She advises on sales and acquisitions and leasing of commercial, industrial, retail, and rural real estate. She also does due diligence to identify real-estate risks in corporate transactions.

Wilton, who has a wide range of experience in commercial law, has a particular focus on infrastructure development in the energy and resources sector, particularly in the gas-fired power station, cogeneration plants, renewable energy facilities, and gas and water pipelines.

In May, JWS hired two partners from Clifford Chance, including the Magic Circle outfit’s former Perth managing partner.
