Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS) has appointed new partner Jan Hards to head up its AI initiative.

In the newly minted role of head of AI, Hards will marry his M&A and private equity practice with leading the firm’s AI strategy and client implementation. He will oversee AI-driven legal solutions while guiding M&A transactions, corporate governance, foreign investment and strategic advisory matters.

He will manage JWS’ AI adoption roadmap, leveraging AI to bolster service delivery by developing client-facing AI-enhanced offerings for transactions, disputes and regulatory matters. He will also trial co-development projects with major clients for customised solutions.

Moreover, Hards will supervise the equipping of lawyers with AI competency to provide technology-enabled services.

“This appointment reflects our commitment to embedding artificial intelligence at the heart of how we deliver legal services. Jan’s combination of deep transactional expertise and a genuine passion for legal technology makes him uniquely placed to lead this important initiative”, JWS managing partner Jeremy Davis said. “The role ensures that our AI strategy is grounded in improving outcomes for clients, reinforcing JWS's position as a market leader in legal innovation and technology”.

Hards said he was assuming the new role at a “pivotal” time for the legal profession.

“AI presents an extraordinary opportunity to enhance the quality, speed and value of the advice we provide. I look forward to working with our clients to deliver intelligent AI-led solutions and guiding colleagues across the firm, while also continuing to advise clients on complex corporate transactions”, he said.
